I came across an article tonight that asked some questions about waiting on the Lord.
Here they are (with my answers):
-What does it mean to wait? What’s involved?: to have an understanding that He truly has a plan for my life and is working it out daily. It means trusting the creator of life and time with my life and time.
-How are we to wait?: With patience and confidence giving God the glory throughout it all.
- Who and what are we waiting for?: Waiting for the Lord to open a door that is clearly in line with His will for me.
- Why should we wait?: I need to ask/answer this question more often. Who would want to miss out on the abundant life (John 10:10) that Jesus gives us when we wait long enough to allow Him to work?
- How long do we wait? Indefinitely.
There are four Hebrew words found in the O.T. used for the word "wait": quavah, yachal, damam, and chakah. Each of these words translates to a slightly different meaning for our word "wait", but in general the words translate to mean: to look patiently/hope/state of eager expectation (quavah),trust(yachal), to long for(chakah), grow silent/be still (damam).
Wait for the LORD;
Be strong, and let your heart take
courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.
Psalm 27:14
"Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!" (ESV)
"Stay with God!Take heart. Don't quit. I'll say it again: Stay with God." (Message)
Psalm 37:7
"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him..."
Psalm 46:10
"Be still and know that I am God..."
"Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God." (Amp)
Psalm 62:5-8
"My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him. He only is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Defense and my Fortress, I shall not be moved. With God rests my salvation and my glory; He is my Rock of unyielding strength and impenetrable hardness, and my refuge is in God!
Trust in, lean on, rely on, and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is a refuge for us (a fortress and a high tower). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!" (Amp)
Jeremiah 10:23
"I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps."
needless to say... I'm waiting.
I think Psalm 46:10 is my life's verse! I don't know what makes waiting so painful...Other translations say Cease Striving, Relax, Let Go. Let Go and know I am God. The verse goes on to say that God will be exalted in the earth and among the nations. It reminds me to stop, to remember the bigger picture and whose kingdom is being brought about. Good thoughts, Heath.
